500 square meters water feature Praterstern, Vienna

At Praterstern in 2022 we built one of the largest water features in Europe, it is located between the train station and the Tegetthoff monument, there were:

  • 114 pcs. Water jets (AquaSaal 110) with RGB lighting mounted in Rigole
  • 114 pcs. Low pressure fogging nozzles (AS50) mounted in Rigole
  • 105 pcs. High pressure misting nozzles (AS50) embedded in concrete

The plant is supplied with potable water and the applied water is collected in a sponge city and used to irrigate the surrounding green areas and trees. Between the water supply and the plant are installed a pipe separator, filter, UV disinfection and a softener (optimal hardness 6dh) to prevent any possible contamination.

The nozzles are divided into 7 circles each, the 7 Rigol strands which are shown in a star shape, these point in the respective direction:

  • Stephansdom
  • Augarten
  • Kahlenberg
  • Danube Island
  • Wurstelprater
  • Green Prater
  • Danube Canal

The water jets and low-pressure nozzles are located in these infiltration trenches, while the high-pressure nozzles are located in the spaces in between (pie corners). (see floor plan)

The individual circuits are switched by 230V solenoid valves according to a choreography, varying according to temperature and time. The operating pressure of the low pressure nozzles and water jets is between 5 to 8 bar, the heights of the water jets are set differently with ball valves. (approx. 0,50 – 4m)

For the high pressure pumps are needed to reach the 70bar.
