Cooling-Spot in Vienna – Raintime “behind the Scenes”<\/h2>\n

Currently we are in the middle of the preparations for a great project that will bring refreshing cooling in the city<\/strong> in the summer. To the delight of all Viennese and visitors, we are in the process of implementing one of the largest water features in Europe, right in the heart of Vienna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Urban heat islands<\/h3>\n

The heat wave has already started and maximum temperatures of up to 36\u00b0 C are no exception. Especially in cities, these high temperatures are noticeable and stressful for people. Dark surfaces, asphalt and concrete store heat particularly well and so-called heat spots develop, for example in Vienna.<\/p>\n

Due to climate change, the magic 30-degree mark will be reached more often and earlier. Especially in cities, it will become even hotter in the coming years and decades. In Vienna, there were 42 heat days in the summer of 2018, twice as many days with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius as the long-term average. The peak values climbed to the 40-degree mark. On 46 nights, it did not cool down below 20 degrees. In the future, temperatures in Vienna are even forecast to rise by up to eight degrees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cities are poorly ventilated and more anthropogenic heat is released through driving and industrial processes – including cooling buildings. Air conditioners are one of the summer sources of anthropogenic heat emissions that negatively affect urban microclimates because of their waste heat. Conventional air conditioners may cool an apartment or building, but they increase the heat for everyone else in the city.<\/p>\n

Our “Dry Mist” processes work with the basic principle of evaporative cooling. Water is finely atomized by high pressure in combination with special high pressure nozzles, so that on the one hand no wetness is felt and on the other hand an optimal cooling effect occurs.\u00a0Through appropriate climate engineering, structural conditions, volume, temperatures, humidity and wind as well as basic physical laws are optimally utilized to achieve the best possible values with the least possible energy input.<\/p>\n
