Even though the winter was rather mild this year, lawns need good preparation and intensive care to start the new garden season<\/strong>. Due to the snow, the lawn grasses have received little light and air for many weeks. As soon as the days get warmer and the frost has disappeared from the ground, the first growth spurt begins. This is the ideal time to get the lawn ready for the next few months. Raking, fertilising, scarifying and sowing new lawn seeds are now on the agenda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n With the growth period of the grass blades and as soon as they are 7 cm and longer<\/strong>, the lawn can be mown for the first time to a length of around 5 or 6 cm<\/strong>. This can result in brown patches and the establishment of weeds.<\/p>\n By loosening and aerating the soil with a scarifier or scarifying rake, you support the growth of the grass, allow the roots to better absorb water and nutrients and can also remove weeds and moss at the same time.<\/p>\n Sowing new lawn seeds is part of every lawn care in spring. In most cases, bare patches have been created by the snow or by scarifying and weed removal. You should sow sufficient new seeds in these less dense lawn areas.<\/p>\n TIP!<\/strong> Do not tread on the freshly sown areas again until the grass is already a few centimetres out of the ground.<\/p>\n In spring, most plants – and also grasses – urgently need new nutrients. With a lawn fertiliser you can stimulate the growth of the grass roots and the lawn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n TIP!<\/strong> Slow-release fertilisers containing nitrogen are particularly suitable for a start to growth.<\/p>\n Especially in the first 4 weeks after sowing the lawn seeds, the lawn must be watered sufficiently and regularly<\/strong>.
