The lawn often represents the largest planting area in the garden and therefore, like all other grasses, needs optimal care and preparation for winter.<\/p>\n

Lawn grasses are very robust plants and their roots survive even if the stalks and leaves on the surface die off. In order to strengthen the lawn for the winter so that it can continue to grow again without gaps in the spring, it is now time again to keep the lawn fit with mowing, fertilizing and scarifying.<\/p>\n

OVERVIEW of lawn care in October<\/h1>\n

\u2611\ufe0f CUT THE LAWN<\/h3>\n

The growth rate slows down as the temperatures drop, but you should mow your lawn while the grass is still growing. The cutting height should – like all year round – be around 4 – 5 centimeters. We recommend that you remove the clippings as completely as possible, as they can no longer rot particularly well with the ever-cooler temperatures.<\/p>\n

\u2611\ufe0f REMOVE LEAVES AND WINDFALLS<\/h3>\n

You should regularly remove windfalls and leaves from the lawn. This is the only way to prevent damage and diseases (fungal diseases). Fallen leaves prevent the lawn grass from absorbing light, cause fungal diseases and promote the growth of moss. You should also not leave windfalls on your lawn for too long, as the grass could be damaged if it begins to rot.<\/p>\n

\u2611\ufe0f REMOVE WEEDS<\/h3>\n

Deep-rooted lawn weeds have little difficulty in surviving in low temperatures or dry phases. Pick out weeds and roots.<\/p>\n

\u2611\ufe0f APPLYING AUTUMN LAWN FERTILIZER<\/h3>\n

Winter puts an enormous strain on your lawn – dry periods of frost, temperature fluctuations, closed snow cover or long-term waterlogging. With a special autumn lawn fertilizer, the lawn grasses receive nutrients that strengthen them and the iron it contains naturally counteracts moss infestation.<\/p>\n

Autumn lawn fertilizer contains little nitrogen and more phosphate and potassium and works for an average of ten weeks. While phosphate promotes root growth, the potassium acts as a natural antifreeze, so for the fertilizer to be well absorbed by the roots, you should water the lawn abundantly after fertilizing.<\/p>\n

\u2611\ufe0f SCARIFY LAWN<\/h3>\n

Usually you can scarify your lawn until the end of October to free it of weeds, moss and thatch grass residues.<\/p>\n

\u2611\ufe0f RE-SEED<\/h3>\n

It is best to re-sow bald spots with a drought-resistant seed mixture. After sowing, it is important that the soil does not dry out. Let your sprinklers run for a few minutes several times a day.<\/p>\n
