The Airship.03 pavilion – Fontana D’Aria explores the relationships between air, ecology, urban space and the human body. Fontana D’Aria was designed to promote the dialogue and value of natural microclimates, especially in densely populated areas. The mobile climate installation is part of the “Breathe.time” campaign of the Austrian National Tourist Board.

As with Airship 01, we have designed and implemented the fog system for cooling and the irrigation. We are pleased that we were again able to make a contribution in this absolutely exciting project and the successful result. The opening of AIRSHIP.03 – Fontana d’Aria took place on 06.06.2018 in Piazza Tre Torri in Milan.

Description AIRSHIP.03

– According to press release dated 31.05.2018 –

Airship.03 comes from the Austrian stand at the Expo Milano 2015: a green area that has delighted and refreshed visitors on the hottest days, illustrating the close connection between Austria and its nature and environment. Airship.03 is a temporary climate landscape installation that lets visitors immerse themselves in a deep-breathing experience. A dense, humid and perfumed forest that provides a significant improvement in air quality. Thanks to the ventilation and water evaporation technology, the perceived internal temperature decreases by up to 5 degrees compared to the outside. Moss, ferns and lichens play a big role. Because they are by nature not very conspicuous, they are important to the ecosystem because they neutralize carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. The installation interacts directly with the environment: During the hot, dry days, Airship.03 becomes a refreshing oasis. On rainy days, water is collected on the roof and cleaned and absorbed in the central basin. In this way, the installation becomes an active part of the urban space by regulating the microclimate, providing a refreshing break on sunny and rainy days.
